I was lookin through one of my Peterson 4wheel offroad mags and they installed the Holley TBI type EFI on a AMC 401 in an old wagoneer. It looked like a pretty sweet setup, but I imagine it was expensive. I guess it increased mileage and HP plus no more stalling out on inclines.

Yes those kits do work but usually that plug and play stuff is pretty expensive,if i were going to do that i would scavenge the junk yard for parts and computer ,should be lost out west . Just my opinion but i would rather have a carb just for the simplicity of working on it ....if it doesn't run there's only 2 things it can be ,fuel or fire .When an efi doesn't work it usually has to go on a machine to put you somewhere in the ballpark of which 6 sensors out of 20 you have to test just to find out after 2 days of trouble shooting and diagnostics that it was the computer not shifting the trans at the right time so it went to limp mode and ran like a bag of crap.
2 days labor - $ 482.76
Diagnostic use - $ 139.47
new computer - $ 604.92
..........................................
carbed truck won't run ,
Pull the coil wire and check for spark .... yup spark there (finger's now numb )
Pull the fuel line and crank over ...nothin pull fuel line in fronyt of the pump ,fuel runs out ..... probably the pump ~
Fuel pump $ 38.70
fixed at home Priceless!

I'll delete this from you 're thread after ya read it lolol
