Hey guys,

I have an old '89 Chev 1/2 ton, (4wd, 4.3) That the clutch line broke on... now, correct me if I am wrong, but this line appears to be a little bit of plastic, a little bit of steel, and a lot of headache...

I am assuming I am going to have to buy a clutch line, simply because it IS so unique... but how do I go about getting the old line off? I had a look at the ends and they are most certainly not your typical flair or double flair fittings... it almost looks like the ends clip on... some how...

Suggestions?

Actually no - these ones were held on with roll-pins through two eye-lets...

I got the lines off, but can't get to the effing brackets on the back-side of the engine to remove the line entirely...

Anyone have any suggestions? Besides removing the cab? Which is all I can think of...

I have the slave off sitting on my work bench, its the clutch line I can't get off. There are 2 bolts on top of the transmission up right close to the firewall that hold the line on, I just can't get a wrench up in to them properly...  I was hoping that someone may have a hint...

put a jack under the t-case and take out the cross member. Let the jack down a little bit and see if you can get on the bolts that way. Should be able to use a long extension and a socket.

i was also thinking the same thing too.tilt it down and go from underneith with a long extension and a swivel socket even.mite be able to tilt it up using the floor jack and get a little more room between the firewal and engine to be able to get a wrench in there or even a s-shaped ratchet in there with a swivel head on it.

Can I jack it up/drop it down without disconnecting the drive-shafts?

The thing is just going to be a beater... I'm tempted to just wire-tie the clutch line to the old one :|

I have yet to call around and see if I can get a new clutch line too, a project for later today.

Thanks thus far guys!

Should be able to with the drive shalfs in. It only has to come down a couple of inch's to get at your bell housing bolts.

when you get the old line off take a pic of it. You may have to make a line. You can use brass compression fittings and steel line or (copper) if you wish. Take your line to a truck shop and they should be able to help you out.

The problem with the line is it isn't normal flair fittings. I'm quite used to making up hard steel lines, but this is both steel and plastic... it has ends on the line which are held in by roll-pins...

I just found the following on eBay....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-89-90-91-Chevy-C%2FK-Truck-Clutch-Line-New_W0QQitemZ250448004447QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090620?IMSfp=TL0906201410003r35363

Sadly I may give up on the truck if it is $100 for a line... I just can't afford to put that into a beater right now that needs a bunch of other work.
