thats pretty good.probally better than having it done once every year.we only need to have it done once here, only when you go to insure the vehicle for the first time,or if you want to sell it with a inspection.so you could saftey it once and keep driving it without ever having to have another one, however in saying that you sould see some of the junk on the streets here.ive had lots of vehicles in work, and seen on the street with front end parts ready to break, and brakes that are totally worn out etc.always see a vehicle holding up traffic cause its ball joint broke and wont move, due to people not caring.

I think its kinda stupid in my opinion, i think they should just leave it the way it is, cause it will take another ten years for everybody including some garages in the province to figure out how its actually suposed to work just like when they changed the inspection laws awhile ago in having top take the wheels off and what your to do with rejected stikers and so on and so forth, i still know for a fact that some shops still dont know how to do these new changes so its just gonna be a cluster f*&$ for the next 10 years or so cause evrybody is too stunned to really figure it which is gonna make it really annoying, haa anyways i dont chat much online but i heard about this inspection bs and just had to throw in my 2cent,

If it aint broke dont fix it

I agree, I think we will see alot more junk on the roads. I will say though if during the increased inspections if they find something that fails on a vehicle and its over one month old since it was inspected they better not be coming back to the technician or shop about it.   My arguement here is this new rule -

• When selling a vehicle, inspection sticker must not be more than 30 days old -

or buyer must sign agreement acknowledging purchase of vehicle “as is”

Right now some of the minimums are pretty low  like 2/32 for brake pad thickness. If you have someone who rides the brakes they can get it from 3/32 on the day of inspection to below spec easily in a couple weeks, stuff like this i dont want to see come back.

Also Im not a big fan of it the second opinion thing, (dont get me wrong im not just trying to make a buck, I dont work flat rate and lose time on all inspections anyway) but if I fail something and they go get a second opinion at Joe Blow's and hes passes it  cause he dont really give a frig I dont want them to then go and report me or something. Because they have made the reporting easier as well.

i totally agree with you about the brake pad part, and that some of the standards are pretty low even with ours here.i know on ours there isnt a spot for u-joints,only cv joints.so you could have u-joints ready to break and spit a drive shaft out.and the power steering leaking part, that cant be leaking but your engine could leak 2L a day and thats ok.I do work flat rate as a tech, and i do find that i usually loose money doing inspections, and not get paid to re-check it when it comes back in cause the works been done elsewhere.I hear you about the part of somone reporting you because the other person just passd it thru.

if there is a complaint against a mechanic and or garage  they should have D.O .T  check the vehicle !

I am on the fence until i hear the rest of the changes but i like it so far . i do ALL the work to my car accept for inspections so i know what there like . i also know it's not  a safety issue that a dome light doesn't work or a fog light is out door rubber gap is a little too big or my dash blinker doesn't blink right side ........THAT IS B.S. ...

i have lots of argument for both sides but we'll see  . I can see you're point about reports too but if i know i just did the brakes 2 weeks ago and the mechanic tells me my brakes are shot and i can't take my car  or they call the police .......or i get 5 different things that have to be fixed from 3 different garages ......that's not right nor is taking a garage licence for a car pulled over 4 months after inspection with a hole in the rocker panel !

rant over  (temporarily )

Yep good idea about having DOT check it if there is a discrepency. Gotta have someone backing us up.   Seems there never is.

yes i totally agree with you.its nice to know that somtimes theres somone behind us haha.DOT usually checks into it pretty good here when theres a discrepency.i defentally hear you on the dome light issue or the fog lite issue, stuped how if the vehicle came with it and they are there, they have to work. And never mind spending time traceing wires trying to repair a dome light to pass a insp.

so, what i'm confused with, we just moved here in july. we bought a 2008 Yaris in may. so we moved here, and got our car mvi'd so it could be licensed in NS, so now what do i do after the inspection expires? take the sticker off and dont' worry about it until 3 years from the purchase date of my car? do i have to carry around the bill of sale from toyota to defend my expired mvi sticker, or lack thereof? is there going to be some sort of 'new car sticker' that has a date of expiry requiring inspection on it? i've read everything from the gov't, but this area is the least explained.
